The Norwegian Taco Championship was arranged for the fourth time by Apetina in the Oslo-based food court Mathallen, October 27th. Four teams competed against each other to create the most creative, innovative and tasty tacos.

The semifinals took place online, and all teams were voted on by the Norwegian people. Three restaurants in addition to one team with amateur cooks competed against each other in this year’s Championship.

The restaurants participating were Harry Pepper from Stavanger, Frida from Trondheim and Quesadilla Tequila Bar from Oslo, as well as Mexicanica’s Nancy and Veronica from Kristiansand who represented the Norwegian people.

The winner was decided and announced by the jury members; Chef Sylvia, Anders Husa ( and Line Bruu ( and Mitt Kjøkken Ruler).

Harry Pepper won
This year’s championship was won by the restaurant Harry Pepper, who impressed the judges with their creative tacos.

– Harry Pepper was innovative, had exciting flavors that worked well together and used Norwegian ingredients. They had that little extra, said the judge, Chief Sylvia.

Hard competition
When the winner was announced, the boys from Harry Pepper were both really surprised and proud.

– It was so exciting to win! We wanted to make a Nordic twist on the tacos by mixing Mexican and Norwegian flavors, and just playing with the ingredients, says Lars Aspen from Harry Pepper.

Christel Jørgensen, Project Manager for the Norwegian Taco Championship said their goal is to inspire Norwegians to become more creative with the tacos they make at home.

– The cuisine can be made in infinite many ways. This year we wanted to let everyone have the opportunity to challenge the restaurants. It has been very fun to see how the competition has been engaged!
